The goal of the project “Harju Together: Youth Stories, Crisis Readiness and Community Action” is to strengthen community resilience and trust in independent local journalism by engaging young contributors to produce multimedia content highlighting volunteering, community cooperation, and crisis preparedness across Harju County. The project responds to changes in how audiences, particularly younger people, consume information. Many young residents primarily receive information through social media platforms, where reliable local journalism competes with a large amount of unverified or misleading content. During crises or periods of uncertainty, this information environment can become especially vulnerable to misinformation and manipulation. Through this project, Harju Elu will develop mobile-first content formats and platforms to reach audiences who do not regularly consume traditional media. Young contributors, working together with experienced journalists, will produce short videos, podcasts, and multimedia stories focusing on community resilience, local initiatives, volunteering, and practical information related to crisis preparedness. The project will also create opportunities for Ukrainian and other minority or socially vulnerable voices to share their experiences and perspectives, ensuring that local storytelling reflects the diversity of the community. In addition, the project will strengthen public awareness of reliable information sources during emergencies. By linking storytelling about community initiatives and volunteering with practical guidance available on our Crisis Info page, the project will help audiences better understand how to access trustworthy information and how communities can respond collectively to challenges. These activities directly support the objectives outlined in the RFA by helping an independent local media outlet experiment with innovative content formats, engage new audiences, and strengthen public trust in journalism while contributing to a more resilient local information environment. The project will be implemented between April and October 2026 and will combine youth participation, multimedia storytelling, and community engagement to strengthen local information resilience and community awareness across Harju County. From May to September 2026, the project will focus on content production and audience engagement. Young contributors, working together with Harju Elu editors, will produce short mobile-friendly videos designed for platforms such as Instagram Reels and TikTok. These videos will present stories about community initiatives, volunteering, minority experiences, and local efforts to support residents during challenging situations. The project will also produce written and multimedia stories highlighting experiences from different municipalities across Harju County. Topics may include volunteer groups, youth initiatives, community responses to crises, and examples of cooperation that strengthen communities.
